For information, call EDD's toll-free number (888) 745-3886 or visit your nearest Employment Tax Office for a DE 27, EFT Program Information Guide, call EFT Unit at (916) 654-9130, or download the DE27 from the Internet.

Employers who are required to file their federal wage reports on magnetic media returns (250 or more employees) must also file their California quarterly wage reports (DE 6) on magnetic media.
All employers with less than 250 employees are encouraged to file by magnetic media because it is a quick, inexpensive way for EDD to record wage and tax information. Magnetic media virtually eliminates the possibility of errors resulting from manual processing.
Tax preparers and payroll services may use magnetic media to file their clients’ DE 6 reports at one time.
We accept 3.5 inch diskettes, CD-Rs, and IBM-compatible 3480 or 3490 tape cartridges.
For more information, call EDD’s Taxpayer Assistance Center at (888) 745-3886 or download the Magnetic Media Reporting Guide for Quarterly Wage and Withholding Reporting Program (DE 8300). The DE 8300 can also be ordered online, or picked up at your nearest Employment Tax Office. For questions about the DE 8300, call the Magnetic Media Unit at (916) 654-6845.
EDD also accepts the Report of New Employees (DE 34) and Report of Independent Contractors (DE 542) via magnetic media. For format specifications, call the Magnetic Media Unit at (916) 651-6945 or download the Magnetic Media Reporting Requirements for New Employee Registry Program (DE 340) and the Magnetic Media Reporting Requirements for Independent Contractor Reporting (DE 542M).
If you have a small number of employees, you can avoid the "paper chase" by using EDD's Tax Telefile system. With Tax Telefile, you can report wage information, make tax payments, and file the annual reconciliation form by telephone at your convenience. The Tax Telefile system is available through a toll-free number 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It's easy to use, and filing can be accomplished in a few minutes. Partnership Schedule K-1 via CD-ROM, Diskette, or Magnetic Media
The Franchise Tax Board's K-1 (565) Filing by Diskette or Magnetic Media program provides a more efficient method of filing the Schedule K-1. In an era of "paperless filing," it significantly reduces the amount of paper that is produced and processed. Partnerships or their agents may submit the Schedule K-1 (565) on diskette, CD-ROM, or magnetic tape in lieu of sending paper K-1s. K-1 TestWare has been enhanced to include a program to preprocess K-1 delimited files. If you would like additional information, please see our paperless schedules K-1 (565 or 568) for Partnerships and Limited Liability Companies Frequently Asked Questions or contact the Electronic Filing Help Desk at (916) 845-0353, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., (Pacific Time).
